Architecture & Sculpture
I have explored organic and architectural structures by using various materials such as wood, boards, plaster, branches, etc. Wood, especially, is a material that is rigid and hard but can become bendable and soft. My investigation comes from taking a material that does not bend easily and forcing it to bend and break from its own boundaries. I use architectural design to create new worlds that contemplate the world we live in today.
Water Advocacy Through Ritual & Practice (2024)
Medium: Plastic clear crystal beads and burlap pouch
Size: 2” x 3” pouch, 0.5” beads
How might we build a world where water is treated as an heirloom to be passed down?
In collaboration with: Zoë Rayn Evans, Cherilyn Tan, and Henry Degen
Medium: Wooden lattice and branches
Size: 6ft x 5.5ft x 2ft
Man vs. Nature. What happens if you take a natural untouched object like branches and have them come together with a man made lattice? Will they speak to one another or will one devour the other?
Curve (2019)
Medium: Repurposed painted wood
Size: 5ft x 5 ft x 1ft
Curving is a natural thing. Things warp like wood when its wet, or when plants curl after it is dry. Yet not everything curves. What happens when you force a curve?
Land and Sky (2018)
In collaboration with Rosemay Dar Santos
Medium: Painted Wooden Dowels
Size: 3ft x 2ft x 7ft
What connects the land to the sky? Each piece of this sculpture connects to one another in many different ways. We each share a connection to the land and sky as we build high rise buildings to reach the sky, and we dig deep below the land to take its resources. Our heads seek connection to the sky but our feet seek connection to the land.
Suspend (2018)
Medium: Foamboard and cardstock
Size: 3in x 3in x 1ft
We have dreams to reach up above. We start with a flat plane and we build up until something is formed that reaches us closer to high above. But don’t let this fool you because whatever comes up must come down eventually.
Subtract (2018)
Medium: Plaster
Size: 8in x 8 in x 1ft
We can easily take away or build onto something. However, it is how much you take away that determines the shape you create.
Module City (2018)
Medium: Mat board and foam board
Size: 1ft x 1ft x 1ft
Module City has you wonder the possibility of how cities are made. This is my exploration into a modular city and how taking a flat plane can turn into many possibilities.
Play (2018)
Medium: Mat board
Size: 12" x 12" x 6"
Description: Play is taking a flat plane and extruding pieces of it to make a playground for all. As the world gives constraints and rules, this pavillion concept asks the question: Why not experience play in all aspects of life regardless of social limitations?
Journey (2018)
One must take a journey in order to get to the final destination. Inspired by the organic shapes created by waves in water, this pavillion showcases the importance of the journey towards a destination that causes a memorable experience.
Residence Apartment (2018)
Medium: Rendered in Rhino Cad program.
Does an apartment complex need to be seperate or close from others? What is the relationship that an apartment complex has and can it bring communities together rather than separate them. This is my exploration into an apartment complex that brings a balance of privacy and public through a shared courtyard and open windows that look out to the community.
